Donovan Edward “Donnie” Niemann, age 79 of Turtle Lake, WI, passed away suddenly on October 5, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic Health System – Barron Northland. Donnie was born January 19, 1939 in Turtle Lake, WI, to Otto and Evelyn (Wagner) Niemann. Donnie graduated from Turtle Lake High School, the Class of 1958. After High School, Donnie hauled milk, worked at the creamery, and worked on the family farm. Donnie was united in marriage on April 4, 1959 to Beverly Ann Gubasta at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Almena, WI. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Brenda, Craig, Debra, Jeffrey, stillborn infant Donn Jason, and Lisa. Donnie and Bev shared 53 years of marriage together, until her passing on July 29, 2012.

Donnie proudly farmed with his son, Craig for most of his lifetime. He enjoyed driving tractor, tending to the farm cats, and taking great pride in caring for his yard. Donnie was a member of the Turtle Lake School Board for many years, and was honored to present each of his children their diplomas when they graduated. Donnie was happiest when he shared 26 winters of sunshine in Mazatlán, Mexico with his wife, Bev, his family, and dear friends. Donnie’s last four years, were spent with his beloved companion, Karen, whom brought a renewed love to his life. Donnie was a devoted Wisconsin sports enthusiast, who cheered on the Green Bay Packers, Badgers, and Brewers. Donnie provided a great example of strength, hard work, and optimism for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He always had a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye, and was a clever jokester. Donnie was a humble and caring man, who loved his family, and delighted in visiting with others.

Donnie will remain in the hearts of his children: Brenda (Rick) Danca of Turtle Lake, WI, Craig (Terri) Niemann of Turtle Lake, WI, Debbie (Jeff) McAndrew of North Fond du Lac, WI, Jeff Niemann (Tammy Hellstern) of Turtle Lake, WI, and Lisa (Bill) Benedict of River Falls, WI; 10 grandchildren: Scott (Nicole) Danca, Jamie (Nate) Hubbard, Jill (BJ) Quade, Ashley (Dallas) Solfest, Justin Niemann (Taylor Grigsby), Jordan Niemann (Joni Donath), Ryan McAndrew (Jasmyne Johnson), Stephen McAndrew, Marcus and Gavin Benedict; 10 great-grandchildren: Tyler, Mason, Madison, Landon, Ashlyn, Benton, Adrianna, Ayden, Parker, and Edison; his beloved companion, Karen Varnam; sister-in-law, Jeanette Niemann; other special relatives, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bev; brother, Bob Niemann; infant son, Donn Jason; and his parents.

A Visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, 300 Martin Ave. W., Turtle Lake, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Funeral Services honoring Donnie’s Life will take place 11:00 AM Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Dan & Pam Tornio

  • We were so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. We are blessed to have had him a part of our family for a brief time. He was such a wonderful man. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Craig, Charlene, Logan and NIck

  • Sorry to hear about Donnie. Will miss him so much. Remembered him calling or coming over and we would talk football. Or just stop by and “shoot the breeze.” When they would go to Mazatlan, he always felt so much better in the sun. Thinking of all the children that will miss him, as all the people in Turtle Lake will.

  • Our deepest sympathy goes out to the entire family at this difficult time. Cherish all of the wonderful memories you have of Donnie. Hugs and prayers to the entire family, especially Debbie.

  • We are so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing, Lisa. You were so good to our family when we needed you, so if there’s anything we can do in return, please let us know. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
