Elmer R. LaDuke, age 89, died peacefully at the Baldwin Care Center, surrounded by his family. From his birth on April 25th, 1929, to his death on July 16, 2018, he was a man of integrity who loved the Lord and his family. He was born in Mondovi, WI to Reid and Ada (Fleichauer) LaDuke and was the fourth of seven. After graduating from Mondovi High School in 1947, he served in the United States Army for two years. Before moving to St. Paul, MN in 1960, and working for the Unysis Company for 32 years, he worked for the Schlitz Brewing, Company in Milwaukee, WI and The Fischer Auto Body Company in the Chicago, IL area.
On November 12, 1960 he married Marjorie Joan Serum. They were truly each other’s soul mate and enjoyed doing everything together. They had two children, daughter, Sharon and son, Mark. The family loved spending time together, especially traveling on vacations. Elmer and Marge made a priority of attending the sporting events and activities of their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great- nieces and great-nephews. Elmer was a loving and devoted husband to Marge for 56 years.
Elmer enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, gardening, attending to his lawn, playing cards, and Bingo. He was a huge Twins and Vikings fan and enjoyed attending games and watching them on TV. He joked that he had a split family, half Viking fans and half Packer fans! He was very active in his church, Ezekiel Lutheran and was a member of the American Legion Post #121 of River Falls, WI.
Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Marge; his parents, Reid and Ada; brothers, Roger LaDuke, Milton LaDuke, Roy LaDuke, Paul LaDuke; brothers-in-law, Donald Shea and David Serum; and sisters-in-law, Joyce LaDuke, Joyce LaDuke, and Marian LaDuke.
He will forever live in the hearts of his children, Sharon (Steve) Freitag, Baldwin, WI and Mark (Karen) LaDuke, St. Michael, MN; grandchildren, Lucas, Jadyn, Brianna and Joshua; brother, Ralph LaDuke; sister, Florence Shea; sister-in-law, Florence Leefeldt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob and Meg Serum and Frank and Betty Vogler, and many loved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Elmer's Tribute Wall

Tributes (3):

  • Our family loved to visit with Elmer at the Lutheran Home in River Falls while he was there. We came to visit our father, Vernon Geister, and always loved to include Elmer in our conversations, he was a wonderful, caring, and loving man. He had a smile that could light up any room and we always enjoyed seeing him. He is with his loving wife now and I bet that was an amazing reunion, your family was truly blessed to have 2 such wonderful parents. Our family will keep yours in our thoughts and prayers.

  • Sadly, I received the news of Elmer’s passing today.Too late to attend the services.. I worked with Elmer at Unisys since 1960. He was a great guy &
friend. And that smile was the best.

  • I just learned of Elmer’s passing from Phyllis Johnson from Mondovi, who was a fellow high school classmate of Elmer’s, as was I.

Elmer and I had a number of classes together when we were at Mondovi High School, the class of 1947.

Elmer always had a smile on his face and was fun to be with, I considered him to be a good friend and I am sure he felt the same about me.

Elmer faithfully attended the Reunions of the Class of ’47, until he was physically unable to do so.

I will be unable to attendh his funeral, but I do send my condolences to his family and loved ones. May the good Lord give you the strength and faith you need at this time.

Your loved one no longer has to suffer as he is in the arms of his Lord. May this thought give you the peace you need.
