Abbie Jean “Tudy” Poliak died on December 8, 2017 at Comforts of Home in River Falls, at the age of 90… a young 90. Tudy was born January 3, 1927 in Rockford IL, to parents Franklin and Ethel (Cleveland) Shores. Her father gave her the nickname of “Tudy”. Tudy graduated from high school in Rockford, and furthered her education at the St. Anthony School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. Tudy was united in marriage on Feb 19, 1949 to John Eugene Poliak. They were blessed with 60 years.

Tudy and John moved to Albert Lea MN, where John played semi-pro baseball for the Albert Lea Packers. Tudy worked at the clinic as an RN. Although she had back problems most of her life, that certainly did not slow her down. She and John retired to Solon Springs WI, and resided there for 22 yrs. She enjoyed playing “500”, golfing and visiting with friends and family at the lake. During her 9 years in River Falls, Tudy was an active member of the River Falls United Methodist Church. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Tudy is survived by her children, Steve (Roxanne) Poliak, Sue (Gene) Lieser, Mike (Marcia) Poliak, and Jeff (Danielle) Poliak; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Don Behrens; sisters-in-law Marilyn Poliak and Libby Poliak, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and long time friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Poliak; her parents; her brother, Pat Shores; and son-in-law, Terry Hanson.

Memorial Services celebrating the life of Abbie Jean “Tudy” Poliak will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, December 16th at the River Falls United Methodist Church, 127 S. 2nd Street in River Falls, with Rev. Amy DeLong officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

  • Poliak Family: Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this very sad time. Tudy was always so sweet and had a nice word to share and a beautiful smile. You all light up her face when she talked about you – especially the grandchildren. It was fun to share her at family events. We even got to have her at Thanksgiving a few times! She will be missed by all.
