Carol Ann Fischer, age 80 of Prescott, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 20, 2020 at the Comforts of Home in River Falls. Carol was born December 5, 1939 in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Wesley and Verena (Reis) Nelson. She graduated from Prescott High School, with the Class of 1957. On September 24, 1960, Carol was united in marriage to Lawrence Albert Fischer in Ellsworth, WI. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Dawn, Kim, Joan, and Todd. Carol and Larry shared 56 years of marriage, until Larry’s passing on June 5, 2017. Carol worked at St. Croix Dale, and for Dr. Laney’s Office in Prescott, and remained in the medical profession until her retirement.

Carol was devoted to her faith, and was an active member of the Prescott United Church of Christ. She always looked forward to her time with friends through her involvement with “The Crafty Ladies” group at church. She also took great pride in volunteering at Prescott Freedom Park. Carol enjoyed crocheting, reading, and classic Country Western music. She treasured her time with her family at their cabin in Grantsburg, going to craft sales with her daughters, and watching her grandchildren in sporting and various school activities. She was an avid Wisconsin sports enthusiast, who delighted in cheering on the Badgers and Green Bay Packers.

Carol will remain in the hearts of her children, Kim (Mike) Pischke of Johnstown, OH, Joan (Bill) Koller of Prescott, WI, Todd (Sue) Fischer of Osseo, WI; son-in-law, Troy Viegut; grandchildren, Mandi Nelson, Zach (Lona) Pischke, Hilary (Alan) Smith, Jeremy (Caitlin) Koller, Mason Koller, Trevor, Tommy and Lucas Fischer, and Colin Schickling; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Paige, Hailey, Hannah, and a great-granddaughter on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Nelson; sister, LuAnn (Tim) Traynor; and dear friend, Diane Olson.

  • Kim, Todd and Joan,
    I’m sorry we were unable to attend your Mom’s visitation and funeral and to express our condolences personally. Your Mom and Dad were the epitome of what good decent people should be – warm-hearted, kind and giving to all, with a wonderful dose of humor in the mix. Your Mom’s strength and courage were amazing in the face of difficult times and decisions. What a gem Carol was, and those of us who were lucky enough to know her, benefited greatly. Peace to you today and in the days to come.

  • So sorry to hear about your Mom. She was the sweetest and most caring person.I know she will be missed by many. Rest in Peace Carol

  • Kim, Todd, and Joan;
    Sorry to hear of the passing of your mom! She was such a wonderful person. She was so caring when we lost my dad, and again when my mom passed away. She will be greatly missed. I hope all the memories you shared with her will help you get through the tough days ahead.

  • I didn’t know Carol well but we met at a Grief Support group and although she missed her husband deeply she was also able and willing to be there for others!
