Dennis Richard Anderson age 67 of Hager City, WI, passed away at Mayo Health Systems Methodist Campus, Rochester, MN, February 10, 2020 following a courageous battle with cancer. Dennis was born on October 3, 1952 in Red Wing, Minnesota; the son of Richard and Bonnie (Peterson) Anderson. He attended Wilson Country School and Lindgren Elementary schools prior to graduating from the Ellsworth High School. But the majority of his lessons were learned right on the farm from his dad. He learned the value of hard work, the principles of not being afraid of getting your hands dirty, and the commandment of “If your going to do something, do it right the first time!” His work ethic and family values were passed onto his children. In 1976, he would be married to the former Sherrie Stockwell. This union would be graced with children Jeremy, Kelly, and Stacey. This union would later dissolve. On August 3, 1985, he married the love of his life Donna Sue Busch at the Bethel Covenant Church. This union would be graced with daughter Lyndsey.
For anyone who knew Dennis, they quickly came to appreciate his genuineness, integrity, and character. He was looked up to in the community as a leader, yet was a great influence to those he loved the most; his family and friends. He became endeared as a school bus driver for the Ellsworth School District which he proudly did for forty-two years. Loving his hometown, he served thirty-five years on the Trenton Town Board. While serving this role, he took much pleasure from his role on the ambulance and fire board. Earlier, he was a gifted seed corn salesman for Golden Harvest where he not only could sell a pitch, but he could back up his words. He and Donna shared many special trips but his time spent in Alaska was most special. When Dennis wasn’t perfecting his plow lines in the field, he was meandering around the farm on his Gator making sure his plow lines were just right!
Dennis will forever live on in the hearts of his wife Donna; children Jeremy (Dulcie) Anderson of Hager City, Kelly (Jennifer) Anderson of Hager City, Stacey (Adam Lenz) Anderson of Hager City, Lyndsey Anderson of Hager City; grandchildren Kali (Andrew), Roslind, Riley, Braydon, Landon; his mother Bonnie Anderson of Hager City, Brother Glen (Cheryl) Anderson of Hager City; nephew Travis Anderson; and a host of other relatives and countless friends. His dad Richard and nephew Aaron Anderson precede him in death
Funeral Services for Dennis will be 11:00 a.m., Monday February 17, 2020 at Bethel Covenant Church, Ellsworth, WI. with burial at the Church Cemetery. Casketbearers having the honor will be Lee Amyx, Alan Thoner, Bobby Christiansen, Josh Benck, Dennis Rieck, and Karl Girdeen with Herbie Oberg serving as an honorary casketbearer. Visitation for Dennis will be Sunday February 16, 2020 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. also at Bethel Covenant Church Ellsworth, WI. and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Monday. Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family.
Arrangements are entrusted to O’Connell-Benedict Funeral Home, Ellsworth, Wisconsin.

Dennis's Tribute Wall

Tributes (11):

  • So sorry to hear about Dennis, I grew up helping bale hay for the Anderson’s. My dad and mom Chuck and Deanna Becker rented from Dick and Bonnie for many years and I used to watch Dennis and Dick milk cows and ride on the tractor with Bonnie when she raked hay. He will be missed thoughts and prayers for the family.

  • Dennis, Glen & Richard gave me my first job. They tought me to work hard every day. Each morning before school I would bring the cows in and get them ready for milking and do it again after school. Throwing haybales in the summer. Dennis will be missed.

  • My deepest symathy to your family. I went to school with Dennis and he was always so nice and fun to talk to. Seems like he remained that way his whole life. A life cut too short, as we need more people like Dennis in this world.

  • Dear Anderson family,
I remember Dennis as the parent of three children that passed through my kindergarten classroom at Lindgren Elementary. So many years have passed, however, I remember his kindness. My thoughts and prayers are with you all!

  • Dear Anderson Family, Dan and I were so saddened to hear of Dennis’s passing. I’m not sure what all happened, but our thoughts and prayers are with your whole family. We all feel our family members were taken too soon, and out is definitely true with Dennis. Donna, take care of yourself and I pray that God gives you strength at this time. We know Dennis was a great guy and God always seems to take the best. Sending love and hugs to you all. Bless you 🙏🙏🌹💕 Dan and Kathy Tebbe

  • So sorry to hear of Dennis passing. We went to school together, he 2 yrs. Younger. We rode the same bus. He was always so funny, friendly, and nice. We didn’t see each other often since our school days but when we did we always had a good laugh. People just loved him. God Bless your family during this heartbreaking time.

  • To the Anderson family – I am so heartbroken to hear about Dennis. My walks around the neighborhood are not going to be the same without him waving a friendly hello! Rest in Peace…

  • I am so sorry to hear about Dennis. My thoughts and prayers to you all. Dennis was the greatest bus driver. I was the first one to get picked up and sometimes the early pick ups were on the bus when we’d hear on the radio that Ellsworth had closed school and we’d all cheer and he’s take us home. God bless you all and RIP Dennis.

  • To the Anderson Family..we are so sorry to hear of Dennis’s passing. You are all in our thoughts and prayers! Dennis was mine and my sisters bus driver as well as my dads neighbor who lived across the highway from him for many years.
    RIP Dennis!
