In Memory of Gail Mattson

Gail Faith Mattson, age 78 of Prescott, WI, formerly of Bessemer, MI, passed away July 17, 2020 at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Gail was born October 21, 1941 in Bessemer, MI, the daughter of Verner and Faye (Peronto) Juntunen.  She attended Bessemer schools. On January 24, 1959, Gail was united in marriage to the love of her life, Roland “Rollie” Mattson.  Their marriage was blessed with two children, a daughter, Lynne and a son, Darrell.

Gail worked various jobs throughout her lifetime, but spent the last of her working career as a sales associate at Kmart in Cottage Grove, MN, and as an office clerk for the Dakota County Receiving Center in Hastings, MN; retiring in 2002.

Most important to Gail was her family.  She treasured each moment shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She and her husband, Rollie, loved to travel out west and to Texas. In her quiet time, Gail enjoyed crocheting and knitting.

Gail will remain in the hearts of her daughter, Lynne (Matthew) Severson of Mondovi, WI; son, Darrell (Kim) Mattson of Red Wing, MN;  9 grandchildren:  Leander Stenroos, Gregory (Jess) Stenroos, Candice (Russell) Bruneau, Danielle Brannigan, Heather (Benji) Orth, Melissa (Charles) Jennings, Shannon (Josh) Wilder, Benjamin Johnson, and Zachary (Tricia) Johnson;  9 great-grandchildren, Mya, Sawyer, Jaylyn, Wyatt, Ellie, Evan,  Ozlo,  Georgianna, and Harold; brother, Paul Erickson; sisters, Roseanne (Bill) Ferrari and Carmen (Donald) Mussatti; sister-in-law, Arlene Juntunen; along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollie; sister, Sherry Erickson; brother, Robert Juntunen; step father, Reino Erickson; and her parents, Verner and Faye Juntunen.

Graveside services will take place June 11, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood, MI.

  • I was so blessed to have met Gail. I called her grandma and I always made the time for her when she came into my work to stop and chat. She was such a great lady, funny, a little spitfire and just all Around welcoming. She will be missed very much. RIP Gail, I know you’ll be watching.
