Janet Mary Hansen, age 73, of Prescott, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Kinnic Health & Rehab in River Falls, WI. Janet was born in LaCrosse, WI to Leon and Jeannette (Prindle) Cook on April 30, 1945. She graduated from Bangor High School, the Class of 1963. Janet was united in marriage to Douglas Paul Hansen on May 1, 1964 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Paul, Kavin, Kathy, Mark, and Fred. In 1973, Janet and Doug moved from Bangor, WI to a farm outside of Prescott, WI. She worked in the Registrar’s Office, for the University of Wisconsin – River Falls for 38 years.

Most important to Janet was her family. She loved surrounding herself with family, and looked forward to Friday night family “bonding” time. Those special times brought joy to her heart and wonderful memories for her family. Janet enjoyed her time crafting and making cards. She was a talented baker, making beautiful wedding and birthday cakes, and the family favorite, chocolate chip cookies. In her quiet time, Janet was the family seamstress, sewing matching children’s outfits, home décor, hunting gear, and mending the un-mendable, extremely holey, favorite clothing items. Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was a hard worker, helping her husband on the farm, working at the UWRF, and providing unconditional love and support to her family. These were the beautiful examples why everyone thought she was the true foundation of their family.

Janet was preceded in death by her infant son, Kavin; son, Paul; father, Leon Cook; and brother-in-law, Edmond “Butch” Knudtson.

Janet will remain in the hearts of her husband, Doug; children, Kathy (Greg) Bethel of Prescott, Mark (Lisa) Hansen of Prescott, and Fred (Dawn) Hansen of L’Anse, MI; grandchildren: Ashlee (Josh) Tri, Nikki Bethel (Jeremiah LaCroix), Samantha Hansen, Shiann Hansen (Robert Le Roy), Paul Hansen, Caleb Hansen, Ethan Hansen; great-grandchildren, Harper and Jackson Tri, Jayden and Harley Bethel, and Walter Le Roy; mother, Jeannette (Cook) Kroll; siblings, Jane Knudtson, Rita (Virgil) Thompson, and William “Bill” Cook; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, October 5, 2018 at O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home, 1339 Orrin Rd., Prescott, WI, and one hour prior to Mass at the church on Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 AM Saturday, October 6, 2018 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, 211 E. Division St., River Falls, WI. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Prescott, WI.

Janet’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the compassionate staff at the Kinnic Health & Rehab and St. Croix Hospice, as well as Dr. Gilleo and Dr. Morgan for their care.

Funeral services are entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home of Prescott (715) 262-5404.
