Janice ‘Jan’ Most, age 78 of Ellsworth was born to Eternal Life on January 4, 2021 at her residence with her family by her side. Jan was born January 26, 1942 in Red Wing, MN to Melvin and Margaret Steiner. She graduated from Ellsworth High School and pursued a career as a hairstylist. For over 40 years, Jan cut, colored, curled, and curated hair styles beginning at Harold’s Beauty Salon in Hudson, then Norma’s Beauty Salon in Ellsworth, and ultimately as owner of The Vogue Beauty Salon in Ellsworth. On October 26, 1963, she married Gale Most and they raised two daughters, Pam and Kim.
To know Jan is to know kindness, laughter, and friendship. While short in stature, Jan stood tall in the eyes of her family and friends because of her kindness, compassion, and loyalty. She was so welcoming, and when you spent time with her you felt like you were the most important person in the room. She was genuinely interested in how you were doing and diligent to ensure you had what you needed. Jan had a compassionate heart and was quick to listen, lend a helping hand, and share a little laughter just when you needed it most. As a sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, or friend, she could be counted on in time of need. Jan’s smile and laughter could ignite a room and often did when hosting friends and family for memorable pool parties, celebrations, and holidays. Above all else, Jan put family first and her youthful and vibrant spirit will live on through them.
Jan was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret, father, Melvin, brother, Jim, and husband, Gale. She is survived by her sister, Kathy (Tony) Hines, two daughters, Pam (Andy) Schneider and Kim (Artie) Dworak, four grandchildren – Justin (Amy) Schneider, Danielle (Brock) Hudak, Jessica Dworak & Rue Ether, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A PRIVATE funeral service will be held for immediate family only on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 11AM, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth, Wisconsin. The service will be live-streamed, click here. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity close to Jan’s heart. A life, so beautiful, deserves a special celebration. It is the hope of the family to have a Celebration of Life and Burial service for Jan this summer. More information will follow this spring. Funeral and cremation services entrusted to the O’Connell – Benedict Family Funeral Home of Ellsworth.
Dear Pam and Kim
I am truly sorry for your loss. As a young girl she was such a sweet person to me. I do remember her holding her wooden spoon if we acted up but I don’t remember her actually using it LOL 🙂
I miss the two of you and hoping that maybe we could all get together soon to catch up on life. You have been blessed with such a loving family and my prayers will continue for a long time to help you both get through this.
Love you always my neighborhood sisters
Linda
