Joshua Michael Gergen II, age 17 of Prescott, WI, passed away suddenly on June 17, 2021 at his home.  Joshua was born February 15, 2004 in St. Paul, MN to Joshua Michael and Donna Marie (Perez) Gergen.  A happy only child growing up, Joshua was known to family as “Mikee.”  He was quite the jokester and delighted in making others laugh, and often was told to “cut the comedy.”

Joshua just completed his Junior year at Prescott High School. Active and enjoying sports, Josh played football and ran track.  He was fond of being on the winter hills skiing and snowboarding, and relished the summers on the water jet skiing and fishing.  Like most teenagers, Joshua also loved hanging out with his friends and spending his time gaming.  A good friend and leader to others, Josh was looked up to by his peers.   In deep sadness, hearts are broken with this tremendous loss and would have gone beyond measure to show Joshua how truly loved he is.

Joshua will forever remain in the hearts of his parents, Donna Marie and Joshua Gergen; grandmothers, Hildur Perez and Candace Gergen (Troskey Vincent); great grandmother, Helen Egland; along with loving aunts, uncles, cousins, special friend, Mallory Boles, countless friends and his dog, Scrappy.  He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Federico Perez and Thomas Gergen.

A Visitation will take place 4:00 – 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM Service, Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Old Ptaceks Event Center, 1449 Orrin Rd., Prescott, with Pastor Tim Rosenow officiating.  Private interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.  Pallbearers assisting with the services will be:  Grant Stanton, Kyle Budworth, Mason Shanklin, Eric Korfhage, Sam Murphy, Dominick Shelstad, Philip Siefert and Dylan Bierbrauer.

Funeral services are entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Funeral Home of Prescott (715) 262-5404.

  • Donna, Josh and family –
My daughter Ava is so heartbroken at the death of her wonderful friend. I hope she gets a chance to share the many stories she has but my favs so far are : Josh “tricking “ her into playing outfield with him and he “ sucks at catching balls” and then went on to catch EVERY single ball. Riding with Ava shortly after she got her license , she made a sketchy turn and never lived down the “ worst driver title “ from Josh. There are many more and let me tell you, she has the biggest smile when remembering him and the stories – you can see the JOY he brought to her life as she shares his memory.
We will continue to share the memories she has of him in our house and keep his memory alive. I know Ava will NEVER forget Josh and the valuable friendship he provided her with.
So many hugs coming to you from the Salay family

  • Dear Gergen Family,

although I don’t personally know you – my son was a classmate and teammate of Josh’s. He has many fond memories of your son and will miss him greatly. Please know that our entire family send our deepest condolences and will continue to keep you all in our prayers.

    The Loucks Family:

  • Josh and Donna,
Kyle, Katrina, Lane, Phil, and I are devastated by Josh’s passing. We will miss hearing Kyle yelling at Josh while on the PlayStation. I will miss laughing at Josh’s funny t-shirts, hearing about how crappy I grade essays (he was joking, I think!), and seeing that dimply smirk/smile. Phil will miss razzing him about the 100m dash. Kyle…well, Kyle will miss everything. Please know that are thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, and we are here for anything you need. Josh was, is, and always will be loved by the Budworth family.

  • Even though I don’t know your family, I am feeling your heartbreak and grief for losing your son. Our son passed in May at the age of 41. Too little time with him. Parents should always go before their children. It is a pain that will be hard to get over. I understand your sorrow and hope no more parents have to join this heartbreaking club. Prayers and ❤️ to you and your family!

  • Please accept my heartfelt sympathy and extend my most sincere condolences to Josh’s parents, extended family members and friends.

  • Donna and Josh,
Eric and the Korfhage family are devastated by this loss. Josh is truly loved by his friends and he always had a good one-liner to crack everybody up. He was an amazing athlete and it was so fun to watch him soar.

Words can’t express how sorry we are. Just know he was loved and we are grieving with you.

    The Korfhage Family
    Eric/Eman, Scott, Joan and Lauran
